Our Mission
The Bangkaru and Simeulue Islands of Sumatra, Indonesia, have global significance for their biodiversity. They are home to some of the world’s most endangered birds, reptiles, and mammal species. The mission is to protect these islands and to share a solutions-based model with the world.The Need
Each of the species EcosystemImpact works with are threatened with extinction due to poaching, wildlife conflict, and/or habitat destruction. Turtle eggs are poached for consumption, songbirds for the rampant pet trade, and rainforests cut down to make way for palm oil.The Solution
Believing that it is only by considering social, environmental, and political factors that real, lasting change can be made. EcosystemImpact aims to save species from the brink of extinction, contribute to more resilient ecosystems, and develop opportunities for the local community to benefit.Our Impact
Our team of 60 includes five community ranger teams of 40 people, songbird captive breeding and rewilding, locally managed marine areas and environmental education. We partner with āluān company on smallholder farmer regenerative agriculture and traceable high quality coconut products.Since 2019, they have grown from a three-person operation to 63 staff, running five community ranger projects, songbird captive breeding, reintroducing, a locally managed marine area, community engagement, environmental education, and work with smallholders on regenerative agriculture.
